Ryde Thursday 6 a side - NEW SEASON UNDERWAY

The much-anticipated Ryde Thursday 6-A-Side Football League kicked off last night with a series of exciting matches. The players were met with heavy rain for the first week of the season but despite this we saw some thrilling encounters in the new split divisions. Both the Premier League and Division 1 saw players from different teams showcasing their skills and goalscoring prowess on a night that has set the tone for the epic season ahead.

In the Premier League, champions Crown FC made a strong start to their title defence, defeating the Youth Offending Team 8-4. Despite the defeat, the Youth Offending Team showed some promising performances and we can expect some nail-biting matches in the future from them in this challenging division. Pat O'Meara led the scoring for Crown with 4 and bagged an early Player of the Match award in the process. Meanwhile, Roverners began their season on a high, outscoring Hardly Athletic in an incredible game from two of the most competitive sides in the league. The game finished 5-2 with Luke Ward and Tom Wathen each netting twice for Roverners who again showed that they will be no push over in the Premier League. Puyol Pants Down had a tough start to their season as the took on Ivory Toast who take an early lead in the table with an emphatic 11-1 win.

Over in Division 1, it was equally as tense as Vectis Rovers battled it out with Chamakh My Pitch Up in a high scoring thriller. The former emerging as winners with a crazy score of 9-7. Manchester Obe City and Khedira Pin Drop III also fought out a high scoring affair and the two teams couldn't be separated with the match ending in an incredible 6-6 draw. Aaron Doncaster shone brightly under the floodlights with a well taken hattrick with new signing Joe Fallone backing him up with 2 for Chamakh. Zach Wood stole the show though and was awarded the MotM award having set up 5 of his teams 6 goals. The Khedira team also put in some excellent individual performances with the ever energetic Luke Warde bagging a tidy hattrick with Danny Murphy and Rhys Brierly also hitting the target to help secure a fair point for his team.

The most valued player of the week was Ben Jefferies, displaying a phenomenal performance for Roverners in the Premier League. His saves and distribution were key to his team's victory, earning him the well-deserved recognition.

The season has just begun and if the first week is anything to go by, we can expect an exhilarating campaign ahead. Stay tuned for more action from the Ryde Thursday 6-A-Side Football League and don't forget we have one space to fill ahead of week two next Thursday.
