Monday 6th February - Worcester Round-Up

It was a good first week of the season in the Worcester Monday 6 a side league this week, as we saw all teams in attendance for their matches throughout the night as scheduled for the opening round of matches.

Unfortunately Goals Aloud from Division One have opted to withdraw from the league due to a lack of numbers.  We are in a fortunate position to be able to replace them immediately, and are delighted to confirm the addition of new team 'Texas Oldham' to the league as their replacement, whom we wish good luck in their first fixture on Monday 13th February!

The two teams promoted to the Premier Division showed their intent in week one as both collected wins.  What Team Name were winners of an entertaining encounter against Clash of Dudes, which they eventually ran out of 5-3 winners, whilst Sporting a Beergut were 3-1 victors over General Sports Enthusiasts.  Last season's champions Phoenix suffered a shock on the first week of their title defence, losing 3-2 to Greyhound FC, whilst it ended all square between Woodgreen and Chateuneuf Du-Pape in a game that finished 1 apiece.

Division One new boys Class on Artificial Grass wasted no time settling in to the league, as they romped to an 8-3 win against Visionary FC, showing themselves to be early competitors if they continue in this vein.  Salty Sea-Men collected the points in a comfortable 5-0 win over the outgoing Goals Aloud, whilst recently relegated Pickle Pinchers will be looking to bounce back at the first time of asking, a 2-0 win over Inter Ya Nan just the start they wanted to aid this.  Last in the division but definitely not least, saw an entertaining game between Unathletico Madrid and Crouch Potato end all square at 3-3.

Division Two saw Malvern Massive fly out of the blocks on game week 1, as they thrashed Indra by 6 goals to 1 to start their season off perfectly, whilst Daddy Ben claimed the points in another impressive performance as they cruised to a 4-1 win over Night Shift.  Full Kit Yankers remain quite new to the league and ply their trade in Division Two this campaign, a 3-2 victory over Monner Athletic gives them cause for optimism for the campaign ahead, whilst it ended all square at 1 each between Plunger & Superglue and Chunk & The Seven Dwarves to complete the action.

We thank all teams for their continued commitment and reliability towards the league and are pleased to see the league running as smoothly as it is at present.  We wish all teams the best of luck heading into game week 2 with Worcester's premier providers of small sided football.
