Thrilling action in Swindon Academy six a side

In the final game night of the Leisure Leagues Swindon Thursday six a side from Swindon Academy before the teams break for Christmas teams produced some great football and thoroughly entertaining matches.

In game 1 The Lads produced another excellent performance to keep up their winning start to the season. The 4-0 result keeps up their impressive scoring average and further extends their lead at the top of the table even though they are still level with Fat and Sassy on points. After the break the Lads take on Exeter which will represent another solid chance to extend their lead. For Lean Team it was back to reality after a solid win the week previous. However, a couple of wins will get them back among the tightly contested midfield battle.

In game 2 The Plough got their season back on track with a 7-1 thumping of Exeter Gently. The game was tight in the opening exchanges but once the Plough got the first goal they put there foot on the gas and were at times untouchable. Liquid football throughout the whole team led to a spread of goals for almost all the players of the Plough in a game which should’ve had more for them with some unbelievable strikes cannoning back of the crossbar. Exeter known for not giving up did pull a goal back with one of their two shots which spoilt the Plough party, but overall a fantastic performance for the Sky Blues which sees them end 2019 on a high. They are now third in the table but a long way behind the leading two.

Game 3 was a cracking game between 1980s Legends and Fat and Sassy. 1980s Legends have improved dramatically this season with the new surface helping their style of play while Fat and Sassy are yet to hit top gear after their exploits last season. This made the game a fascinating match up and at times both teams played some great stuff. However, in the end Fat and Sassy just had that little bit of individual quality that was able to make the difference in attacking positions. Fat and Sassy continue to trail The Lads and it seems likely that this will be the case right up until the two play each other. 13th February is already looking like a crucial date in the calendar.

Finally a thrilling game between SPEZIAL FC and Ba Boys took place to conclude the night. In total 10 goals were scored between the two sides as defensive responsibilities were abandoned in favour of all out attack. Given their relative positions in the league it’s perhaps unsurprising that the game ended in a draw which means both teams remain level on points. However, they are near the wrong end of the league table and will need to start racking up some wins in order to climb up the league table.

We now break for two weeks over the Christmas holidays before returning to action on the 2nd January. Everyone from Leisure Leagues Swindon wishes all the teams a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

In the meantime any prospective new teams can look to join the league and start the new year right. All you have to do is follow the link at the bottom of this page to sign up online.
