Play in the Sedgley Monday Football League powered by Leisure Leagues
In the final week of the group stage of the cup competition, we look into all the action from the games. Stay tuned for goals, saves, and much more. Who has made it through? Who’s feeling confident? Let’s find out.
We start with AFC Gornal vs La Masala. AFC Gornal set the tone early in this game, showing their quality from minute one, playing with confidence and fluidity. La Masala had a few bright moments, but Gornal’s relentless attack and control left little room for a comeback. An entertaining match-up, and we thank both teams for their continued dedication.
Next, AFC Gornal faced The Old Tigers — a closely fought battle where both sides had their chances. Gornal edged it with a well-balanced team display, while The Old Tigers pushed them all the way with grit and determination. A very open game which had it all: plenty of action in a highly intense encounter. Credit to both teams, who have been in good form — this match did not disappoint.
Finally in Group A, Underdawgs FC matched up against Diddy's Dream. A game that looked fascinating on paper — and it delivered. A fast-paced and evenly matched contest, Underdawgs brought early intensity, but Diddy’s Dream responded with calm, clinical play to keep things tight right to the end. An important victory for Diddy’s Dream, who finished the group stage on a high.
Group B kicked off with SH Dons vs Woefulhampton Wanderers. This clash saw SH Dons assert their dominance early on, controlling the midfield with sharp passing and quick transitions. Their attacking trio was relentless, creating multiple opportunities and forcing the Woefulhampton defence into constant retreat. While Woefulhampton managed to find pockets of success with some well-timed counters, they struggled to contain SH Dons’ fluid movement and clinical finishing. It was an intense affair, marked by moments of brilliance and defensive lapses on both sides — but SH Dons clearly dictated the pace and tempo throughout.
Next in Group B was Out On Bale vs Woefulhampton Wanderers — a thrilling, back-and-forth encounter, with both teams showing flashes of brilliance and moments of vulnerability. Out On Bale started strong, applying pressure with quick one-touch play and clever off-the-ball movement. Woefulhampton, however, weren’t to be outdone, responding with energy and direct attacking play that kept their opponents on their toes. As the game progressed, the momentum swung several times, with end-to-end action and dramatic goals keeping it wide open until the final whistle. A truly spirited contest where both sides left everything on the pitch.
As the final whistle of the group stage blew, we now enter Finals Week — where all trophies and prizes will be handed out to the teams! Congratulations and thank you to all teams who have participated in the cup, and here’s to more football magic next week in what will be the final round of fixtures before the centre closes for a brief period.
