Abingdon Thursday 5 a side back! Match day report.

Happy New Year to all our Abingdon Thursday night 5 a side teams and our refs of course. Great to be back out there playing although shame about the weather last night. We are still having a few issues with covid isolations but thank you for getting your match fees paid. It's not easy but it's something we've all got to live with at the moment and hopefully it will become a thing of the past one day. It would certainly make my job easier if it did one. Despite that there were some excellent games played last night with an exciting title race in Div 1.

Congratulations to SWXI who sealed the Premier League title after they went 4 points clear after a points match with Abingdons. Nathan Collins took on FC Hog in a friendly with both their opponents away. The game of the night was an 18 goal thriller between Carlos Puhol and Eagles with Carlos holding on for a 10-8 victory. Xavi Dodgers put in a fine display to defeat Narcos 8-2 to round off the Prem results.

In Div 1 the title is going down to the wire as Out On Bale won 10-0 against Megs Fit to go top on goal difference from Abingdon's who had a points match victory. Eat Sleep Lose Repeat stayed in touch with the top two and still have a outside chance of the title as they narrow defeated The Pie Eaters 2-1. Gylfi Pleasures had a nightmare this week, turning up at the wrong time for their match with Sweaty Stockman, thankfully Megs Fit stayed on to make sure Stockman had a game. Finally a cracking game between Burton's Boys and Zircotekkas saw Burton's edge it 4-3.

Thank you to all our teams and to our refs. See you all next week for the final week of the season. The new season starts on the 20th January. New teams can register online, just a £10 joining fee. Thanks Rich 07969 731086
