REDTAIL CHAMPIONS OF ABINGDON 5 A SIDE

Massive congratulations to Redtail who sneaked ahead of Holdmybeer last night to clinch the premier league title in our Abingdon Wednesday Night 5 a side league at Tilsley Park. It's been a brilliant campaign in all 3 divisions and we must thank Dean and his regular team of refs for making it all happen on match nights. Thanks also to our team captains for managing the teams and making sure they have a side out each week. We welcomed a number of new teams to the league in the latter stages of the season and some need to be in different divisions moving forward so there will be some reshuffling to do before the new fixtures come out, I will speak to any effected teams over the next few days before we go again with a brand new season next Wednesday night.

It's always great to head into the final round of games with plenty to play for and that was certainly the case in Abingdon last night. The prem was decided with a play off between the top two with Redtail just edging 3 - 1 to leave HoldMyBeer in 2nd place. Botley Wanderers finished in style with a big win over Berinsfield, Harry Stanley penning his name onto the golden boot with a well taken hat-trick in the process. Botley's Finest also ended the season strongly against one of our other late additions to the league in FC Proseshionals. The 12 - 0 score courtesy of 5 from Freddie Whitfield and 4 from Oliver Alden.

The Division One title also went to the wire with Goring GOB's getting revenge on Mighty Ducks for a defeat earlier in the season and securing the 5 - 4 win they needed to be crowned as champions. Jamie Vickery's 3 goals keeping his nose ahead of Mighty Duck's Dec Clerkin in the golden boot race to give The GOB's double reason for celebration. It's not all bad for Mighty Ducks though as they hang onto their promotion place and will get to play top flight football next season. Well done to both teams for a brilliant contest throughout the season. Elsewhere in the division, Basically Barca beat Slough Posse 10 - 6 thanks to 4 from Tom Cleary to maintain their place in the middle league.

Appleton Red bow out of the league as Division Two champions after a dominant season that saw them claim 18 points and win the title at a canter. New Side Bayern Neverlosen come second after just a handful of games having taken over from a departing team recently and may well need another season in Division Two. Maragonna end 3rd following a strong finish against Ale Stars. Jake Painton claims the golden boot for his brilliant haul of 28 goals in the season for Appleton so well played to him and his team.

Our seasons Most Valuable Player award goes to Thomas Dallimore of The Mighty Ducks with 5 MOTM awards, well played Thomas.

We are looking for a couple of new teams to get involved in this league but spaces are limited and this is a popular time of year with the 11 a side season wrapping up so if you are looking to get involved in some 5 a side on a Wednesday night please get in touch soon so we can include you in the new season. Contact Rob on 07538562547 for info or simply register via this link and we will get you set up.
