Stamford Sunday 6 a side news 2024-04-07

In the thrill-packed culmination of the Stamford Sunday 6-a-side football league, the final week of the Premier League saw Inter Yanan clinch a decisive 4-2 victory over Hardly Athletic FC and finish a mediocre 3rd, a friendly and a brilliant 3-3 headliner.

The Posh stole a few teams' players who decided watching some tin-pot trophy thing in London was more important than supporting their mates in the final game of the season.

Inter Yanan's  over-sensationalised performance was marked by a standout effort from Ethan "the unregistered maestro", who netted two goals to top the division's score chart for the week, but not officially because he's unregistered. Kian claimed to have scored but as he was a guest player it doesn't enter the record book either.  "Batters and Tatters" the upfront pairing Hardly (like what we did there??) troubled the defensive zone and when the call from the sideline for Tatters to press came, he subbed himself for fear of having to do some ironing.  Ben must've been listening to Alanis on the way to the ground as the irony was evident in a case of kick the ball away in disgust and complain that the opposition was taking too long.  The night truly belonged to Ryan Reece of Inter Yanan, who, despite Alexander's claims, was better than Alex because the ref said so; nothing to do with nutmegging the man in black at all. Reece's doctored performance earned him the title of the most valued player for the week - standout action was the drop-kick distribution resulting in a brilliantly saved penalty, Ben wasn't happy with the stop and promptly netted the rebound - albeit too late to affect the outcome.

WIT 6 were true tp their light blue roots and sent word to the assembled troops 30 mins before take-off, I mean kick off, that they couldn't make it.  Apparent disgust at a new beard ruling for their green compadres could've been the reason?

The last fixture saw a thrilling friendly between the might of the Pink Ladies and a bolstered Borrussia Muddleandbadbach.  An early fantastic fingertip stop from Kian in the Ladies net ricochet off the upright, hit him in the back and put KW firmly on the scoresheet - sad end to a great stop ..... ish.  Tom Mac in a full hero charge from the back to around zone 14 was woefully shot by an unknown sniper, play continued with zero regard to the gunshot wound - such was the care of his team and the opposition.  Some magnificent distribution from Dan the Borussia stopper caused havoc with Pink Ladies formation and created chance after chance, for Fin to, to, to, well, not score.  Harry absurdly confessed that his hands reeked of gentleman juice at the start of the second half and continued to call Mat selfish, the inner workings of the Champions remains a complete mystery.  In the dying moments Pink Ladies struck a worldy in a bid to lob a very confident Dan which collided with the crossbar (not for £1) and safely behind to cement the draw.

Congratulations to the Pink Ladies who are crowned Champions for another season - Loving the kit!

Well done WIT 6 who are flying high as Runners up.

Special mention to Ryan who doesn't ever get a mention, and Alex who isn't ever keen enough to be MOTM.

Stamford Sunday 6 a side league ended on a high note, marking the end of a successful football season. The teams, their formidable players, and the undying spirit of the game made this season truly one to remember - Football was the winner tonight!  And absolutely no AI was used in the generation of this report.
