2 horse race at top of Gerard Buxton six a side!

It was another decisive night at the Leisure Leagues six a side in Royal Wootton Bassett as the top two broke away from the pack with polished, professional performances.

The night started with a shock upset as mid table Wirral Wubbish suprised everyone with a resilient hard fought victory against 2 Goals 1 Cup. The game had started with Wirral missing a golden opportunity with possibly one of the worst attempts at a 1 step penalty ever. Jack Hunter could only hold his hands up and apologise after blazing his spot kick high and wide. Wirral though, regrouped from this disappointment and relentlessly attacked 2 Goals goal until eventually keeper Will Jeary could no longer keep them at bay. The goal eventually coming courtesy of Rob Appleby To their credit 2 Goals rallied in the second half and had plenty of opportunities to get back in the game. Unfortunately it was just one of those nights where nothing seemed to happen for strikers Callum Flay and Raisham Mudhar. 2 Goals will kick themselves over this result but they still have chance to make up ground on the top 2 when they face them in the coming weeks.

The second game saw top of the table Silence of the Lahms take on Bass Rugby who for the second week in a row, were without key players. Even without these absences, it would have been difficult to keep such talents as George Staten (fresh off the back of his match winning performance at the County Ground) and Harry Gough at bay. Harry got the ball rolling with a calm finish and then scored a thunderbolt of a second with one of the cleanest strikes this reporter has seen in a long time. The keeper had absolutely no hope. George then finished the game off with a casual finish to keep up his impressive goals per game ratio.

Game 3 was a goal fest with Expected Toulouse recovering from some recent disappointments to win 6-0 against Sloblins. Despite their keeper making some fine saves he was unable to prevent players with the flair and quality of Ryan Wallace and Ryan Baker from making their mark on the game. Dancing through the defence, these two put on a show for the spectators bagging five goals between them. Captain Hollie Timbrell will hope that they can no push on from here and begin to climb the table in the second half.

In the final game of the night Gangsters Allardyce laid down a statement of intent against the massively improved Hardly Athletic. Gangsters were boosted by the presence of their returning captain Charlie Bradford. The guys were clearly determined to dominate this game from the off and they came out of the tramps quickly and cranked up the pressure by employing a high press and refusing to let Hardley Athletic have any time on the ball. Callum Roberts backed up his excellent performance last week with another brace while Kyle Brentnall and Tiernan Boland also got themselves on the score sheet. Hardley captain Dan Clarke always knew this was going to be a tough game and so will not be too disappointed with the defeat knowing they have winnable games to come. Gangsters meanwhile go into a massive game next week against 2 Goals 1 Cup. They lost this game earlier in the season and will need to reverse that result to continue to apply the pressure to Silence of the Lahms. They sit 2 points behind but with a marginally better goal difference. Could this be decisive by the seasons end?
