Guernsey's Wednesday 6-a-side Football league kicked off to an exhilarating start last night as teams across the Premier League, Division 1, and Division 2 divisions locked horns in what was billed as the first round of an enthralling season.
In the Premier League, Two Girls One Schlupp set the tone with a 3-1 victory over Los Diablos, while Gash Galvanisers mirrored the same scoreline against Jager Sinkers. In an eight-goal thriller, Too Many Flutes FC and HFL shared the spoils with a 4-4 draw, leaving fans at the edge of their seats.
Division 1 saw some high-scoring matches, with Egg Fried Reus falling short against One Foot In The Grave in a 6-3 loss. Light The Matchy made a strong statement with a stunning 6-0 triumph over Pelé Galaxy CF, and Valpys FC showed no mercy in their match against Brentford Rejects, racking up an astounding 10-0 win. Football Club FC also started their season well with a 4-1 win over Seeking A Home.
Over in Division 2, Purple Reign set the pace with a 4-0 win over Liberate Pride. Guernsey Academicals and Aztekkers settled for a 1-1 draw, while a solitary goal was enough for Haramball FC to edge Super Hoops United. Lastly, Klopp Goes The Weasel FC nabbed a narrow 2-1 victory over Only Put Matip In.
The top scorers for each division were also in high spirits after week 1. In the Premier League, it was Too Many Flutes FC and HFL sharing the accolades with 4 goals each, while in Division 1, Valpys FC stole the limelight with 10 goals. Purple Reign leads the charge in Division 2 with 4 goals.
As the season has just begun, supporters are already looking forward to next week's games with bated breath. If the inaugural week is any indication, the rest of the season promises nail-biting action and intense competition.
