We were treated to an exhilarating second week of the Abingdon Monday 5-a-side Football league, with standout performances and high drama across all four divisions.
DIVISION ONE
In Division 1, the match of the week was the battle between Pablo Escoballers and Pathetico Madrid, which ended in a thrilling 5-all draw. The Six Offenders managed to strike a significant blow to The Broad Beans, securing a 2-1 victory, while Cumnor All Stars clinched a narrow 4-3 win over Royal Madrid, demonstrating their potential as the season unfolds.
DIVISION TWO
Division 2 saw some of the most impressive performances of the week. BarcaBoneHer managed to edge past Expected Toulouse FC with a 2-1 win. The Cunning Stunts demonstrated their dominance with a 4-0 win over FC Unts. However, the highest scoring game was Bud Army's 6-4 victory over Klopps And Robbers, setting an early standard for the rest of the division.
DIVISION THREE
Division 3 saw some intense competition, with Ange Summers losing 4-0 to His Mind FC, Hardly Athletic narrowly lost 5-4 to OBC Saints in a thrilling encounter while Casuals clinching a close 3-2 victory over Optek Utd.
DIVISION FOUR
In Division 4, AgeDoesntMata were narrowly beaten 3-2 by Kante Be Stopped. Ctrl Alt De Ligt and Local Benchwarmers ended in a thrilling 6-6 draw, while Bumfica lost to Matty And The Colonisers 5-1. The match between Victor Moses Lawn and Survey Monkeys saw a fair share of goals as it ended in a 3-3 draw.
While it's early days in the season, leaders are emerging across divisions. Pablo Escoballers, Cumnor All Stars, and The Six Offenders are setting the pace in Division 1. In Division 2, BarcaBoneHer, Cunning Stunts, and Bud Army are the teams to watch. Division 3 is being led by His Mind FC, OBC Saints and Casuals, and in Division 4, it's Kante Be Stopped, Ctrl Alt De Ligt, and Matty And The Colonisers who are taking an early lead.
As we look forward to the next week's fixtures, we will be excited to see if the early frontrunners can maintain their form, or if underdogs will cause some upsets in this thrilling season of the Abingdon Monday 5-a-side Football league.
Thank you to Dean for running the evening and to all our refs and players. Good luck next week!
